12.31.08 New Year’s Eve

Well…it’s the last day of the year.  We are going to find an anchorage before it gets too bad out here…although..with the wider open water the wakes arnt as bad and much easier to jump when you have room to navigate. We realize there will be a lot of boats rushing to their “party” place and it’s going to get busy.

We found a place to drop the hook in a small cove near Ft Pierce Inlet. Near marker R 188  Turned out to be a good spot. Had a light show across the ICW and fireworks off the point.1.01.09 Happy New Year!!!!! 025 I had found another coconut on the beach yesterday so Jim opened it for me.  Here is part of his technique.Jim's coconut techniqueFresh coconut is a favorite….I am looking for more…though Jim isnt. It is a lot of work.

12.30.08 Manatee Pocket

We decided to cruise into Manatee Pocket. Larry and Diane needed ice. We just wanted to put some charge into the batteries. It was a busy place.1.01.09 Happy New Year!!!!! 001 We anchored just inside the entrance1.01.09 Happy New Year!!!!! 011 and could watch all the boats going by. We wernt too far from the fish cleaning station and there was a big flock of pelicans waiting for the leftovers.pelicans near the fish cleaning station We had noticed a floating hotdog stand at the entrance so decided to try one.floating hotdog stand Not bad…not real expensive either. We hung around for awhile then decided to  head back  to the island where the water was clearer and cleaner for a swim. Jim did a trash run before we left1.01.09 Happy New Year!!!!! 013 The island is a popular place for camping.island near St Lucie Inlet The St Lucie Inlet and the ICW is like a big intersection at rush hour.on our way to the island near St Lucie InletI did go swimming but the water was pretty cold. You have to hang onto a long line or be swept away by the current.
