2.16.09

It was cool last night but no need for heat. I was up early..coffee on..dog walked and then we headed up to the restaurant for breakfast. Carole & Ed were going to meet us there. After breakfast they took Larry and Diane over to get some pictures of Southern Cross.A25 002

When they got back..we spent another few hours telling tales. They are going cruising in March..we’ve had an invite to join them…if things work out…we’ll be seeing Southern Cross in motion.

2.15.09 Welaka city Dock

We had a good run across Lake George. Smooth as glass the first half and started to get lumpy the rest of the way. We were off the lake before it got bad…if it did.

Arrived at the Waleka city dock around noon. We called Carole and Ed, of Southern Cross. (an Albin 25) They are down from Maine. They picked us up and took us to see their boat. What a beauty!!! Then a trip to “Shrimp R Us” for a late lunch/early dinner. Great grilled shrimp. Spent several hours visiting then they headed back to Southern Cross.

A good way to spend the day…… with new friends and old friends.

2.14.09

Lots of boats on the water today, but the most interesting were these “sculling”??  boats. We came upon them in a “no wake” zone and couldnt catch them.2.14.09 002

I think it would have been a wasted effort even trying.  They pulled away from us pretty fast.

This big ole boy was enjoying the sunshine.2.14.09 003 Here is a closeup of his L hind foot and leg. Check out the muscles and the claws. They are webbed also.2.14.09 005 We are anchored  near Morrison Island..near R28. (St Johns River) We will be heading for the Welaka City Dock tomorrow. Hope to be there by afternoon.

2.13.09

Larry was up early and left a bit before us. We had to take the dog to shore etc. Pretty heavy fog for awhile but the sun burned it off as soon as it was over the tree tops.

We made a short stop at Hontoon Island to fill the fresh water tanks.

Larry gave us a shout when he reached Lake Monroe Park…it’s funny how some things just work out right.  As they we getting near the park the people from Marine World warned them that there was a dolphin in the area and they were going to catch it and take it to Marine World to be checked out. It had been spotted in Lake Monroe..I guess they are supposed to be in salt water so they were concerned about her.  Larry got some photos. I will post them when he sends them to me.

A quick trip to the house and retrieved the supplies…back on the water and headed N by 4 or so.  We are anchored near G97 in Emanual Bend.  Pretty sunset with this bird silhouetted against the night sky.2.13.09 sunset G97  We should be in  the Astor, FL area tomorrow… and possibly in Welaka on Sunday afternoon.

2.12.09

We spent the day cruising and checking out gators.  Jim and I took a side trip up Blue Creek. We were surprised to see 2 Sandhill Cranes on the waters edge. 2.12.09 sandhill cranes on Blue Creek There were 2 racoons on the lawn across the canal. The lady who lived there offered to call in a hawk but my camera was blinking “low battery” so I had to pass.

We arrived in Silver Glen Springs fairly early and the sun was warm and the water just right.  Had a nice swim..got the anchors all set and took a short nap…a few minutes later, Larry dingied over to tell us some important medical stuff had been left at the truck or home…so we hauled anchor and headed back S. We anchored by G3, behind the island. Treated to a beautiful sunset.1.13.09 010

Lake Monroe Park tomorrow.

2.11.09 Crazy Gator day!!!

We never get enough gator watching…had 3 cruising the anchorage, before we left this morning and the Ahingas were all out sunning them selves. They are a diving bird and must dry their wings.2.11.09 003 This gator was a big one!!!2.11.09 007 Does this look like love?2.11.09 030 these two arnt speaking….2.11.09 039 arnt I cute??2.11.09 041
